Carver’s 466 Motor Yacht is highly flexible because she’s offered in either a two or three-stateroom layout with either enclosed-or open-deck areas. Overall, she’s a good performer with a stable ride that’s great for cruising and entertaining.

If you’re in the market for a yacht that’s as flexible as you are, take a look at Carver’s 466 Motor Yacht. The big 466 is available in either a two- or three stateroom layout, along with a host of big-boat features. Her wide side decks, optional wing doors, and squared-off, business-like pilothouse windows indicate that this yacht is designed to go to sea. Take a look at her bow rails. Sure, they look good, but they are also designed so that it’s nearly impossible for you to leave the deck without warning.

The heart of the 466 is a pair of 480-hp in-line-six-cylinder Volvo Penta TAMD 74 diesels which are both fuel injected and electronically controlled, so you are guaranteed near-smokeless start-ups and clean, efficient running. Onboard monitoring means the fuel/air mixture is constantly adjusted for changing conditions and loads. As a matter of fact, these Volvo’s already comply with international clean air requirements that are not mandated until year 2005.

The 466 ran like a champ, and when it comes to seas, you can bet her 35,000 pound displacement and her 15 ½ foot beam will flatten most of the seas you’ll encounter in normal cruising situations. She gets up on plane in just 8.5 seconds, and we recorded a top-end speed of 32 mph with a best-cruise speed of more than 20 mph at 2000 rpm.

The fuel economy of the engines was also apparent in her performance, yielding a cruising range of more than 300 miles. So the bottom line is you’ve got a lot of choices with the 466…2 or 3 cabins, enclosed or open deck areas. Either way, the boat’s designed to be as flexible as you are.
